There's A River

I love any type of water and I like to think water will cleanse the body internally as well. Perhaps, maybe even your mind too. I passed the river in our town the other day, and it made me think of this poem. I like to think maybe it gives you a chance to "wipe the slate clean" when needed. For some reason the river and the way it flows, just presented this poem to me.

There's a river
bleeding life blood
back into me
I'm clinging to the current
while my body
floats beside me
Drowned upside down
sucking air from my feet
Walking on my hands
using water as a street

  1. I've been fascinated with water since I was a kid. I love to get out on the river and sorta use it as a chance to relax and reflect. Being out in nature and on the water is a great place to embrace solitude. Using the water as a street to help me along on this journey in life. Chris

  2. Yes, being out in nature is contemplative. I like the metaphor of water as a street to guide you on life's path. I love rivers, lakes and oceans. I agree that water is peaceful & cleansing. Glad you reposted this :)

  3. A river is always a wonderful metaphor for so many things in our lives....I have used water so many times in my writing...so I can relate to how you feel about it Chris. I love the line "i'm clinging to the current while my body floats beside me"....beautiful writing here. :-)

  6. "There's a river bleeding life blood back into me" is such a powerful, evocative line. There really is something about nature, but particularly water, that does exactly that....bleeds life blood back into us just by being. Very beautiful!
